Release date for Japanese version of GTA IV announced

Good news for readers in Japan still waiting to get their hands on Grand Theft Auto IV. A press release from Take2 today announced that the localized Japanese version of the game would be released on 30th October, 2008 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

New York, NY – August 15, 2008 – Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today an October 30, 2008 release date for the localized Japanese version of Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.

Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto IV was released in North America and Europe on April 29, 2008, selling 3.6 million units on the first day of release, and 6 million units in the first week. Critics from across the globe have showered the game in unanimous praise for its immersive storytelling; culturally eclectic soundtrack; an unparalleled level of detail in Liberty City; and sixteen player multiplayer with more than a dozen online modes for endless replayability.

Any news on how 'refined' it'll be...? I can only assume it'll be more restricted than the AUS version was...

The AU and NZ version of GTA IV did have some content censored, but then they changed that, I think?

NZ wanted uncensored games, so got them, the vast majority of their game stock came from AUS, so I'm assuming that's how they ended up w/ them.

Yeah. Main problem in Aus is their videogame rating system I think. Only goes up to MA15+ IIRC, while film goes up to R18. It would be fine if they brought R18 into the videogame system and just gave all the GTA's that. No need to censor then.

There's no word on any censorship taking place for the Japanese version though, so unless we hear otherwise we can just assume it's the full uncut version.

Only for PS3 and 360, doesn't say anything about a PC version...

Nope, not that I know of. I was actually just looking at our country stats... says only 2,600 visits per month come from Japan, or 0.39% of our total monthly visitors, lol.
So yeah, they're way down in 52nd place on the list of countries we're visited from

Explains why we have little to no members from Japan.

Still, it's news for those couple of thousand people.
